EU Initiates Support Mission to Strengthen Armenia’s Governance

The European Union has launched a new Partnership Mission to Armenia (EUPM), focusing on bolstering governmental institutions and resilience. The civilian advisory operation commenced following a formal request from Yerevan and is part of the EU’s broader strategy to support regional stability.

Announced on July 13, 2026, the mission operates under the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) and emphasizes strengthening Armenia’s capacity to counter hybrid threats and improve cyber defense capabilities. Unlike the EU Monitoring Mission in Armenia, which monitors border activities, EUPM functions as a non-operational, advisory body aimed at institutional development.

In recent discussions, the Chief of Staff of the Armenian Prime Minister’s Office highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts across government agencies to ensure the mission’s impact. The mission’s objectives include addressing security challenges arising from regional tensions and fostering long-term governance stability.
