Mozambique Moves Toward AI Policy Framework with Industry Stakeholders

Mozambique’s National Institute of Information and Communication Technologies (INTIC) has initiated key discussions with the Mozambican Association of Artificial Intelligence (AMIA) to develop a national artificial intelligence strategy.

The meeting, held at INTIC’s headquarters, emphasized the importance of forming strong alliances among the public sector, private industry, academia, and civil society. Stakeholders agreed that such collaboration is critical to ensuring the ethical and responsible development of AI within Mozambique.

Discussions highlighted the shared belief that AI has the potential to improve public service delivery and modernize governance. Participants identified AI’s role in fostering innovation, increasing productivity, and addressing societal challenges.

Prof. Dr. Eng. Lourino Chemane, chair of INTIC’s board, underscored the agency’s role in shaping technology policies and strategies, positioning it as a pivotal force in creating a secure, inclusive digital environment.

A central topic was Mozambique’s draft National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, known as ENIA. Currently in development, the strategy aims to guide responsible AI adoption nationwide. INTIC is actively consulting stakeholders from across the AI ecosystem to align the strategy with the country’s broader development goals.

AMIA confirmed its commitment to active participation in AI policy discussions and stressed the need for increased coordination among public institutions and private sector actors. The collaboration aims to establish a robust framework to support sustainable AI growth that meets national needs.

This engagement signals an effort by INTIC to broaden stakeholder involvement and create a cohesive AI framework. As Mozambique’s AI sector expands, such initiatives will be vital in shaping a responsible technological future.

AMIA also announced plans for an upcoming event, inviting INTIC to its official launch next Wednesday. The ceremony is expected to mark a milestone for AI development, bringing together key players from across the country and demonstrating Mozambique’s commitment to advancing AI technologies responsibly.
